We strongly suggest that when you use Loctite Anti Seize on all stainless steel turnbuckles and shackles.
The reason is that as you tighten stainless steel turnbuckles they heat up and if they don’t have lubricant on them, chances are a process called ‘thread galling’ will occur. This effectively locks the thread of the turnbuckle to the body, jamming it and making further adjustments impossible. Although this product isn’t cheap, it is worth the investment.
We’ve tried cheaper products and they just don’t seem to do the job. This is the best one we’ve found and we strongly suggest that you purchase a stick and generously smear it onto the threads of your stainless steel turnbuckles BEFORE you use them to tension your shade sail.
Loctite Anti Seize is suitable for use on both coarse and fine threads. Use it on your turnbuckles, eyebolts, and shackles. It will ensure that if you ever need to tighten them or remove them in the future, the threads will be lubricated and easy to adjust.
