CARE & MAINTENANCE
In order to ensure the life-span of the Extrablockâ„¢ product, it is essential that the shade cloth remains tight and so regular maintenance is advised. This includes, amongst others, inspection of any cables and fittings for wear and to make sure they have not come loose, also checking the stitching to ensure it is not damaged or frayed.
The best way to get rid of any dirt or other deposit on shade cloth is to clean the fabric with a standard household dishwashing detergent and water. Apply the solution with a sponge or a very soft brush. The solution can be left for a few minutes and then rinsed thoroughly with water from a low-pressure garden hose. The fabric should not be washed in a washing machine, clothe dried, or scrubbed with a stiff brush, scouring pad or any abrasive cleaners. The use of high-pressure water to blast the fabric clean is not recommended.
Please ensure that any cleaning product used does not contain any bleach, or other agricultural chemicals containing substances like sulphur and/or halogens (chlorine, bromine) as these chemicals could attack the UV stabilizers within the shade cloth causing a reduction in the life-span of the product, and therefore negating any warranties.
As a general rule, chemicals such as pesticides, metals, metal oxides and metal salts, all halogens and chemical compounds containing halogens or sulphur as indicated in all their oxidation states, are known to have negative interactions with UV stabilizers within the shade cloth we produce. Care should also be taken to avoid exposure to petrol, oils, halogens, concentrated acids and such products.
Polyethylene does not support the growth of fungi, therefore, if there is a mildew deposit on the fabric, the origin will be from elsewhere and not from the fabric. Again a solution of mild detergent and water can be used to clean the fabric.
